Disc Of The Week

Patricia Barber
Modern Cool
We've waited a long time for the follow-up to Patricia Barber's Cafe Blue and it doesn't dissapoint. From now on there are only two. Cassandra Wilson and Patricia Barber, the two most interesting and adventurous female jazz vocalists, far in front of the others. Any female jazz vocalist who can revisit "Light My Fire" and "She's A Lady" with this much tenderness deserves all of our admiration. The Chicago-based singer accompanies herself on piano, supported by a band that paints rare and beautiful pictures that are the mirror of your subconscious. The Jazz Record of The Year.   **** ---Claude Cote---
